The most important maintenance task for your engine
Run for 2-3 minutes. Warm oil drains faster and carries more contaminants.
Under the engine, usually at the bottom of the oil pan. Position your drain pan underneath.
Use a socket wrench. Be careful — oil may be hot! Let it drain completely (5-10 minutes).
Use an oil filter wrench. Some oil will spill — have rags ready.
Rub new oil on the rubber gasket. Screw on by hand until snug, then 1/4 turn more.
Clean the plug, check the washer, and tighten to spec (usually 25-35 ft-lbs).
Use a funnel. Check your manual for capacity and oil type. Start with 1 quart less than full.
Start engine, let it run 30 seconds, turn off. Wait 2 minutes, check dipstick. Add oil if needed.
