What Makes It Special

A Legend of African Luxury

The Blue Train is one of the world's most luxurious trains, operating between Pretoria and Cape Town since 1946. The name "Blue Train" dates back to 1923, but the current service was launched in 1998 with completely rebuilt carriages. The train carries a maximum of 74 passengers in 36 suites, ensuring exclusivity and personalized service. The butler service is available 24/7, and the staff-to-guest ratio is among the highest in luxury travel.

The 27-Hour Journey

The Pretoria to Cape Town route covers 1,600 kilometers through some of South Africa's most diverse landscapes — the Highveld grasslands, the Karoo desert, the Hex River Valley vineyards, and the Cape Winelands. The journey includes a stop in Kimberley to visit the Big Hole (the world's largest hand-dug excavation) and the Diamond Museum. The observation car at the rear of the train features a cigar lounge and bar with panoramic views. Gold-tinted windows reduce glare while maintaining views.

Suites of Unmatched Opulence

The Blue Train offers two categories: De Luxe and Luxury. De Luxe suites feature a full-size bath, separate shower, private lounge area, and a butler call button. Luxury suites are even more spacious with a Victorian-style bath, double vanity, and a separate lounge. All suites have gold-tinted picture windows, underfloor heating, and air conditioning. The suites are equipped with complimentary gowns, slippers, and a selection of toiletries. Turndown service includes chocolates and a personal note from the butler.

Cuisine and Service

The two dining cars serve South African cuisine with international influences — ostrich fillet, Karoo lamb, and Cape Malay dishes. The wine list features South Africa's finest estates: Kanonkop, Meerlust, and Klein Constantia. Meals are a formal affair: jacket and tie for men, elegant dress for women. Breakfast is served in your suite or the dining car; lunch and dinner are in the dining cars. The observation car's bar features a full selection of premium spirits and cocktails, with a pianist on select departures.
